Emerald City Aikido

|

Aikido was founded upon the idea that true victory in life involves winning over the discord
with oneself. Morihei Ueshiba (1883 - 1969), known to Aikido practitioners as O Sensei or
"great teacher," developed the art in this century. Translated from Japanese, Aikido means
"the way of harmonizing with nature's energy." It is also known as the art of peace. Aikido teaches
harmony and balance in relation to the environment, others, and oneself. Underlying the physical
practice of the art are universal principles. These principles embrace the ideas of non-violence
and peace.
