There are so many options for activities for children. Why choose aikido?
Here are some benefits that other parents have noticed when their children have become part of an aikido class:
One of the complaints in this digital, fast-paced world is that attention spans have become shorter and shorter. Aikido requires sustained concentration which children can then apply to their school work and other tasks.
It takes some effort to achieve the next rank. There is a strong sense of accomplishment when the child has had to work hard towards a goal. Persistence is instilled. Meeting their rank goals propels them to work hard towards other life goals.
In aikido you work in harmony with one another. Those who participate in the class with your child form a community of encouragement, spurring each other on to meet their individual goals. The dojo as a whole is a community of lifelong learners.
Respect for the dojo, respect for each other, respect for those in higher rank, and respect for themselves are emphasized and practiced. No pressure of unruly fans in the crowd or over-zealous parents yelling at referees here!
Not only will aikido help with the developmental stages of being aware of your physical body, but practicing aikido can help the child become aware of their inner strength.
All of these benefits are in addition to your child having fun and enjoying each class.
If you or your child are unsure about whether or not aikido is for them, we invite your child to try a free introductory class. We will work with you to decide which class is the best fit. Contact Emerald City Aikido for class times and more information.
